OTDT Roundabout 31 August 2014

If you were busy convoking (as in the act of convocation) this week, here’s what you may have missed from the world of nerd news.

-I really don’t understand why everyone lost their gorram mind about Hello Kitty not being a cat.  I really don’t, but at least there was some clarification, so we can all sleep easier.

-Bigger, badder 3DS? Sign me up. There’s even stuff to play now.

-I’m pretty sure Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino doesn’t like things anymore.  He doesn’t like you, he doesn’t like actors–it makes his stance on Attack on Titan seem even-handed by compaison.  Tomino seems to have joined Shigeru Miyamoto and Hayao Miyazaki in the realms of misanthropic old people, but is it really just age or is there some credence in their curmudgeonliness?

-There’s an idol group called Chubbiness, and they made a video.

-Who needs a bucket challenge when you can have a boob challenge?  It already looks like they raised $20,000+ and it’s for AIDS prevention, so I don’t see two reasons why this is a bad idea.

-Finally, the most important thing about August 31 is that it’s Hatsune Miku’s Birthday. Prepare to be spammed with fanart and MapleStory events? (Remember MapleStory? You know, back when you hung with your friends on Gaia Online and made livejournal posts? Damn kids.)

And don’t forget the labors of Otaku Drive Time this week:

Even though it’s Labor Day, we will still attempt to live-post American Ninja Warrior again on Monday. We hope to see yinz there.

For more up-to-date coverage on all the American Otaku news that drives you, you can also follow OTDT on TwitterInstagram and Tumblr as well as Google+, Pintrest, and Path.
